Carey Jane Clark Discusses The Age Old Advice: "Write What You Know"
Write what you know.
It’s conventional fiction-writing advice. As a result, readers have asked me about the events that motivated the storyline in After the Snow Falls. I’ve been asked if I’ve gone through the experience that Celia faces: a child suffering from a serious illness. One reviewer said, “Carey handled the writing of this book as if she had gone through the trauma of a terminally sick child...[she] made the harrowing scenes so real that your heart ached for the characters.”
I’m thankful that I’ve never had to go through such a difficult experience personally, but when I was young, I lost a family friend to leukemia. The feelings of loss I experienced at that time were the inspiration for the subplot involving Caleb’s friend Michaela.
More than anything, however, After the Snow Falls is a story of the healing power of forgiveness--a hard-won lesson that definitely arises out of my own personal experience.
But what about the things a writer doesn’t know? How can she write about those? The answer, of course, is research.
Writing After the Snow Falls led me into a lot of unfamiliar territory:
• what kinds of medical interventions are taken when a patient has difficulty breathing?
• how late in the building season could one realistically expect to work in Southern Ontario, Canada?
• does alternative medicine offer a cure for cancer?
• what are some famous tourist stops on Route 66?
• what kinds of sights and sounds is a visitor exposed to in Tijuana, Mexico?
• how does an artist paint prophetically?
I found some of my answers on the Internet, some in books. Occasionally, I made a phone call--always a nerve-wracking experience because it’s hard to imagine the impression you’re making on the person on the other end of the line: “Hi. I’m writing a novel, and I wondered if you’d have a little time to talk to me about what someone would be looking for if he bought a used transport truck?” One of my favorite experiences in researching this novel was meeting with the director of Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House and taking a tour of the common areas.
With each new research challenge, I had the opportunity to explore something I never knew about before. Aside from making words sing on the page, it’s my favorite thing about writing fiction.
Carey Jane Clark is a homeschooling mother of three and author of After the Snow Falls. She and her family are expatriates living in China, where her husband is opening a business. She is currently researching two other novels and blogging at www.careyjaneclark.com

Sam Lang Redefines "Ron"
Redefining Ron
By Sam Lang
I wanted to go back and revisit one of my stories that has been available for some time now. Theoretical Fishsticks was intended to be a one-time deal. The problem is that I kind of like the main character, Ron Ungary. He’s a nerd or geek and knows enough to be dangerous. His personality can grate on your nerves. And he does not mind telling you when you’re wrong.
Theoretical Fishsticks recently got a shiny new cover. With that, I asked if I could add a tagline, sort of give the series a name. Oh, sorry, got ahead of myself. Yeah, I’m thinking Ron will get his own series, but it will be special. He’s only going to come around for the holidays. Once a year, he will make an appearance. More than that might be too much. He has that effect on people.
Back to the tagline: A Ron Ungary Inconvenience. I think that sums it up nicely. Almost everything that happens in Ron’s life, not according to his plan, is an inconvenience. Those little inconveniences end up on show for our delight.
The first story, Theoretical Fishsticks, happened around last Christmastime. Ron’s next appearance will be in time for Halloween 2012.
Why not take a moment to get to know Ron? You can do so here for a scant $0.99 - http://goo.gl/gdX7N . A little something to tide you over until the next inconvenience.
If you click on over to my new author page (http://www.facebook.com/samcanwrite ), you can stay up to date on Ron’s next appearance, as well as developments for Severed, my zombie tale.
Until the next time,
Sam

Thriller? Conspiracy Theory? 5 Star Recipes? Yes, It Must Be An Upcoming New Release By C.Q. Scafidi "The Specialist - Volume 2 - Engulfed By Disaster"
When Stan Gideon left his 20-year career in Military Intelligence working for DARPA, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as an Army Colonel, to work as a Sous Chef in a five-star restaurant in New Orleans, few took notice. His career had been in black ops and his job duties were always masked by some manufactured title to hide his true endeavors. Was his choice in new careers by happenstance or is Stan, once again working undercover to expose what could be the greatest threat to humankind…population reduction through the poisoning of the waters we pull our seafood from or a catastrophe of an even greater magnitude?
In this second installment of The Specialist Volume II: Engulfed by Disaster, we learn of the second phase of Stan’s mission. Known to his handlers as “The Specialist” for his ability to take on the most delicate of special assignments, Stan is assigned with the task of finding corroborating evidence linking the major players in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill to a radical conspiracy involving rogue members of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Titans of the Oil and Gas Industry to depopulate the Gulf Coast and poison its waters for future fishing. First assaulted by Katrina, the next tragedy to come was the allegedly “accidental” explosion of the Macondo Deepwater Well and the subsequent illegal use of the deadly dispersant Corexit 9500. With fears mounting over the safety of seafood, a new danger has presented itself… a growing sinkhole located in the bayous of Assumption Parish in a salt dome brine well near 1,5 billion gallons of Butane capable of causing the equivalent of the largest thermonuclear explosion possible by the U.S.
In Volume II, Engulfed by Disaster, the special of the day is Brined Duck and Sausage Gumbo over Mustard Potato Salad. We follow Stan as his investigation into the official version of the events surrounding the BP Oil Spill and the suspicious activities by the key players leading up to the spill. The trail gets hot when he learns of the assertion, ripped from the headlines of the Mainstream Media, that the Texas Brine Company’s now defunct brine well is the cause of the growing sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana. In an attempt to find the link between the Oil Spill and the bubbling gas in Bayou Corne, Stan uses his growing influence over his informant, Chef Gio and his colleague on the Food Channel, Ella Rose of Texas to uncover the truth behind the Oil Spill and an even greater threat…the intentional eruption of a massive radioactive methane volcano with the power to annihilate the entire population of the Central Gulf Coast. Will The Specialist succeed in unraveling the mystery before disaster strikes AGAIN???
CQ Scafidi is an author, historian and investigative journalist currently living in New Orleans. Mr. Scafidi has lived around the globe and has been a first-hand witness to many world-changing events such as the death of two Catholic Popes in Rome in 1978, The Centennial Park Olympic Bombing of 1996, and his work with the World Trade Center during the crisis of September 11th. His background in culinary arts, international diplomacy and business, and his work with the World’s largest corporations and global cartels, provides him with the wealth of information to create this story of culinary intrigue, murder and suspense. Read “The Specialist, Volume II – Engulfed by Disaster” and learn the explosive truth as to what the Elites are doing to the waters we depend upon for survival..

Mystery abounds in the books of Amazon Best Selling Author J.T. Lewis.
Living in Southeast Indiana with his wife and daughter, J.T. has always loved a mystery. Striving to bring readers a story packed full of action, adventure, and suspense has led to his current selection of titles.
His first full length novel, Murder! Too Close To Home, has been voted #1 on Goodreads Best Debut Mystery Series list. The second in the series, Gabriel’s Revenge, was released with much anticipation in July 2012. Both of these titles belong to the Adventures of Gabriel Celtic series.
Also look for JT Lewis’ Pepper and Longstreet YA mystery series. Having been compared to the old Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries, Pepper and Longstreet at first seem an unlikely duo.

An electrician by trade, at night JT Lewis morphs into a fictional detective with a keyboard, a transition that suits his need for creating exciting stories very much.

Step Right Up And Meet Best-Selling Author Marsha Hubler!
Meet Best-Selling Author Marsha Hubler and
THE LOVES OF SNYDER COUNTY SERIES published by Helping Hands Press
With “horse blood in her veins,” what else could Marsha Hubler write about but stories with horses?
“From the time I knew what horses were, I loved them,” Marsha says. “Although I collected horse models, wrote stories about horses, colored horse pictures, and had my own Annie Oakley outfit as a child, it wasn’t until I was married and had a place of my own that I owned horses. The only time I was near horses as a child was when my mother took me to a riding stable once in a while, where I always asked to ride a pony named Sugar. As I rode, I rubbed my hands on the horse real hard, and then for the rest of the day at home, I could smell the horse anytime I wanted (until Mother made me wash my hands for supper!) Now an ouchy back prohibits me from riding anymore, so I write books that have horses in them so I can ride vicariously. I have many fond memories from which I can base my plots.”
Marsha has had eleven juvenile fiction books published about kids and horses, including the best-selling Keystone Stables Series by Zonderkidz. Her latest project, though, has shifted her attention from kids’ books to the red-hot Amish/Mennonite fiction genre for ladies.
Marsha had owned horses over a twenty-year period, therefore knows her horse facts in and out. She also lives in central PA, “Dutch” country, highly populated by the Amish and Mennonites, who have been a valuable first-hand resource for her series about the Amish and Mennonite folk in the beautiful Susquehanna Valley in central PA.
BACHELOR’S CHOICE, volume one in THE LOVES OF SNYDER COUNTY, was released on July 1st, and TEACHER’S PET, volume two, just came out. LOVE SONG FOR LOUELLEN will be out in September, and over the next year, Marsha is also writing twelve short stories based on the characters in her Amish/Mennonite books. All her latest books and short stories have elements of romance interwoven with Christian principles and … horses, of course! That compilation of short stories is called THE SNYDER COUNTY QUILTING BEE.
Marsha has had a background conducive to effective writing. She has a master’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA, and has been an educator for over forty years. She had co-founded two private schools, Kreamer Christian Academy, Kreamer, PA, and the Bethesda Prep School, Milton, PA, and had served as teacher/administrator in each. She is presently a PA certified homeschool consultant, working out of her office in her Middleburg home, where she lives with her husband and two dogs.
Marsha is getting very favorable reviews on Amazon for her LOVES OF SNYDER COUNTY SERIES. She also hears from her Keystone Stables fans on a regular basis. Several said they have started to seriously think about God, and one gal wrote that she was thinking of killing herself until she read one of Marsha’s books.
“That’s the best pay any writer could ever get,” Marsha says. “I write not only to entertain but also to encourage my readers. Every one of my books has a positive outlook on life with solutions to every problem with God’s help.”
Her life verse is 1 Corinthians 15:10a: “But by the grace of God I am what I am….”

Joseph Max Lewis, Author of "The Diaries of Pontius Pilate" Answers A Few Questions
1. You recently had a book published. Why not tell us about it and then we’ll get to know you a little better?
Sure. The Diaries of Pontius is the title of my first novel. It’s a thriller and just about everyone that reads it agrees, it moves right along. I was shooting for a cross between Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz, with a touch of Frank Peretti.
The book opens when a member of an archeological team is murdered along the shores of the Dead Sea. We learn that the murderer and victim are both spies, observing the expedition and grappling with the fact that the team has just discovered some controversial artifacts.
In fact, Archeologist Kevin Elliot and his Deputy, Jill Gates have unearthed twenty copper scrolls etched with the results of Pontius Pilate’s year long criminal investigation into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They manage to open one scroll far enough to take a series of digital photographs of the writings and email them to a Professor of Ancient Latin for translation. Unaware of the scrolls content, Kevin and Jill are unprepared when they’re caught between an ancient conspiracy of global power that’s determined to destroy the scrolls and everyone connected to them, and a small, fledgling volunteer group, the only force on earth that stands between Kevin, Jill and certain death.
If you want to know more than that, you’re going to have to buy the book. It’s available on Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobel.com, for sure.
2. Let’s talk about you. There’s a lot of action in the book, why not tell us about some of your experiences as a Green Beret and how that contributed to the realism of the book.
Honestly, I’m not sure that I can, for a number of reasons. One big reason is it was such a long time ago. Those experiences are almost like a part of my personality. This story might tell you just how long ago it was and how young I was. Back in those days, everything the Army issued you was “OD,” or “olive drab” green, except for underwear and towels – which were bright white for some reason. So after airborne, or jump school, I was very proud of the fact that I was now a paratrooper. So, I bought a red sweatshirt with a set of jump wings on it that said “Airborne.”
It was a Sunday night and I needed to do laundry for the platoon formation early the next morning. I took all my clothes and the new sweatshirt to the laundermat. I’d never done laundry before entering the Army, my mom did it. So, everything went into the washer with hot water. The uniforms were dark green, no problem, but, the underwear and towels all came out bright pink. It’s about 9 p.m., I’m out of money and we lived, back in those days, in wide open barracks with bunk beds for about 25 guys on a floor. The next couple days, parading around in my pink undies with my pink towel, were rather difficult ones for me.
3. What’s next as far as your writing is concerned? Are there more “Fellowship of the Essentials” books in the works or something else?
Right now, there are three Fellowship books, total: Diaries, a sequel with the same Fellowship characters – not Kevin and Jill, they get to live happily ever after, at least for now - but with a different protagonist. The sequel is done and I have a six page synopsis for the third book, but still don’t know how it’s going to end. Finally, I have an entirely different military-legal thriller set in post war Iraq that’s complete. I haven’t talked to my publisher at Trestle or my agent about that yet, but I and at least one of my pre-readers think it’s a wonderful book.
4. Those books are already written. Are you thinking about something else?
I am. I’ve thought a murder mystery of some kind, set in a county Courthouse, would be a great read. I worked in a Courthouse for a while and it’s such a unique, insular environment. Also, I’ve always been fascinated with the plight of someone wrongfully accused of a crime and how the accusation effects his life. Some years ago, I took a job as a public defender – a criminal defense lawyer for folks who can’t afford to hire a lawyer. The perspective there is very different than when you’re OJ Simpson and can hire a “dream team.” When you’re a poor guy, you get someone like me, or worse, and I’ve never been accused of being dreamy, believe me. It’s just the poor accused guy and a lawyer like me, versus the government. It’s hard to explain what that’s like, and even a defense lawyer, no matter how hard he tries to understand will never know what it feels like to face that machine. The government has battalions of lawyers, police officers, detectives, all kinds of technology, secretaries, receptionists – and you’ve got your government appointed lawyer. If an author, a novelist, not a non-fiction biographer, but a novelist, could know what that was like and would write about it, I think the result would be fascinating. I’ve a completed short story on the topic, which I may expand into a full length novel.
5. Would you mind telling us some of your likes and dislikes? Hobbies, interests, where would you like to travel if you could?
I like reading. More than anything that is my favorite hobby and has been since I’ve been 10 or 11 years old. It serves you well when you want to be a writer. My wife and I rescue standard rough haired collies – yes, the ones like Lassie, not the little shelties, the big ones. One of the things I love about collies is they’re as good looking on the inside as they are on the outside. My wife and I love ethnic food, all kinds - Indian, Cambodian, Chinese and Mexican in particular.
6. Before we wrap things up, where can people learn more about you and the book?
I have a website, www.josephmaxlewis.com where you can learn a little more about me, order Diaries from Amazon or B& N, read the first chapter of the book and read one of my opinion columns from the Leader-Vindicator. Finally, just click on the “GR” symbol at the top right of the page and that will take you to my blog on Goodreads. Stop by, ask a question, post a comment, I try to get back to everyone pretty quickly. Thanks.
Thank you.
Tuesday 10AM EST- The G-ZONE- The All Male Amish Fiction Writers Show Starring Murray Pura, Will Carpenter & Patrick E. Craig!
Tuesday morning @ 10am EST I will have the good fortune to host three authors on The G-ZONE. They are all men, and they all write Amish Fiction. Thus we are calling the show “The All Male Amish Fiction Writers Show”. Who are the three writers: Murray Pura, Will Carpenter & Patrick E. Craig. Below is the link for the show, and also a bit on each author:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/gelatisscoop/2012/08/28/murray-pura-will-carpenter-patrick-e-craig
Murray Pura
Murray Andrew Pura was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and has traveled extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Ordained as a Baptist minister in 1986, Pura has served five churches in Canada and headlined numerous speaking engagements in Canada and the United States. He has five books published, was a contributor to the Life With God Bible, has been a finalist for The Paraclete Fiction Award, The Dartmouth Book Award, and The John Spencer Hill Literary Award, and has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2010 Kobzar Literary Award of Canada.
The Face of Heaven:
Following on the heels of The Wings of Morning, the first book in Murray Pura's Snapshots in History series, comes this compelling saga of the Civil War.
In April 1861, Lyndel Keim discovers two runaway slaves in her family's barn. When the men are captured and returned to their plantation, Lyndel and her young Amish beau, Nathaniel King, find themselves at odds with their pacifist Amish colony
Nathaniel enlists in what will become the famous Iron Brigade of the Union Army. Lyndel enters the fray as a Brigade nurse on the battlefield, sticking close to Nathaniel as they both witness the horrors of war--including the battles at Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, and Antietam. Despite the pair's heroic sacrifices, the Amish only see that Lyndel and Nathaniel have become part of the war effort, and both are banished.
And a severe battle wound at Gettysburg threatens Nathaniel's life. Lyndel must call upon her faith in God to endure the savage conflict and to face its painful aftermath, not knowing if Nathaniel is alive or dead. Will the momentous battle change her life forever, just as it will change the course of the war and the history of her country?
The Face of Heaven is a dramatic story that will release on the 150th anniversary of the historic battle of Antietam, September, 1862.
Will Carpenter
I am a faith filled family man, happily married for twenty-eight years. I believe in having a personal relationship with our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ and having him with me on a daily basis, not just Sundays. I am also a nurse recently retired with thirty years of experience in areas of emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, and child and adolescent psychiatry.
I spent eleven years in the Army as a medical specialist, army recruiter, army scout medic and clinical specialist. My wife is a nurse educator. She presently teaches for a vocational technical school in Chester County. She is loved and admired by her students.
Our oldest son, Matthew, has completed his studies at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg where he has received his Masters in Divinity. He was married to Amanda Wills in June 2011 and has arrived at his first church in E. Tawes, Michigan as it's Pastor, where he has completed his first year. Our daughter, Lindsay, has recently completed her master's degree in special education, she lived and taught in Charleston, South Carolina. She married Eli Abner, in June 2012. Our youngest son, Mark, graduated from college, The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He studied business administration. He graduated May of 2012. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army. His branch is Medical Service Corps. He will attend flight school in Jan. 2013. He will be a medevac pilot when he completed flight school. He has just completed studies in business for 4 weeks in China.
I enjoy reading, a variety of genre's. I began my love of reading novels with Janette Oke. I'm a country boy, and my wife and I recently purchased land up in North East Schuylkill County. We lovingly refer to this as the 'ranch', because of the vastness of its location and how it looks out over the mountains. Being a country boy I enjoy shooting, and often go out with my family. We are not hunters we just enjoy this kind of time together. I love the snow and all four seasons, the location of the ranch is ideal for this. I look forward to snowy days looking out over white open fields at the gray mountains. Lastly I most enjoy writing, it has the same effect on me as reading. The difference is, I control the outcome.
My family and I have always admired the Amish. We would frequently be in contact with them while camping near Honeybrook. We had an exchange student from Germany, Kathryn, she enjoyed speaking German with them, when they would come by. We frequently purchased baked goods from them at those times. Because of the proximity of Honey Brook to us we frequent a couple of shops owned by the Amish. There is one that we purchase baked goods and spices from, and the other jelly and produce. Since we are regulars we enjoy their friendship.

But Patrick Bowers, working as a homicide detective for the Milwaukee Police Department, sees from the timing and location of the crime that this is not a copycat at all, but a killer with an entirely different agenda.
As he pursues the madman using his unique skills and ice-cold logic, Bowers finds himself thinking more and more like his demented prey. The problem is that the more he understands the killer’s mind, the more his own thoughts are being warped. And if he’s not careful he may not be able to recover his mind—or survive the case.
Donald Edwards Peters:
A little about me. I've had what you could call an eclectic work career. I've been a pizza-parlor busboy, bowling alley attendent, journalist, medical equipment salesman, Army officer and owner/breeder/insurer of race horses.
It's been an interesting life.
I grew up in a small California town that turned into a large one I hardly recognize, and frequently get lost in when I visit. I'm a proud graduate of the University of Oregon (I really enjoyed my third sophomore year) with a degree that makes me really good on Jeopardy but is pretty much totally worthless in any other setting.
I write because I can't fathom a life without doing do.
Today, I live in Southern Maryland with my wife. Between us we have four great children, two Scottish Terrors and a cat that probably has an armed robbery in his future. Makes for one hell of a Christmas card.
Anyway, hope you enjoy what you find here.
Cheers,

Carol Howell Opens Up !
As you may know, I have lost 100 pounds. This is a great accomplishment, and I am thrilled to have done this. In fact, I have written a book, If My Body Is A Temple, Why Am I Eating Doughnuts?, and it was released this week on Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook. I hope you will make it part of your reading plan for this week. It will make you wonder, ponder, and – most of all – laugh!
While I am thrilled to have learned much about food, what the scriptures say about proper care for The Temple Of God, and even adapted new attitudes towards exercise, my life is being thrown a few challenges.
One – my daughter is graduating as a Physician Assistant next weekend. That will bring a graduation party which is going to tempt me in ways I don’t want to think about. The few days before the graduation and three days after the graduation will be vacation time, so you know food will be an important part of each day. After all, I’m a Southern girl, and much of my life centers around food!
Two – This same daughter is getting married in October. If there is one time in my life I should NOT be overeating, it is the weeks leading up to the time I will be wearing the most expensive dress I have ever purchased in my life!
Three – I have made a huge change in my career, and that is bringing about some stress. Stress is one of the excuses I use to eat. UGH!
I really need to stop, take a deep breath, and remember God loves me so much. He wants me to be successful in all areas of my life, and He isn’t going to leave me when I need Him most.
Ahh, now I feel better. Thank you, God! Come back next week and Listen To My Brain Rattle.

Goerge Micheal Loughmuller Invites You To Visit Karsten Field Again With His Newest Story-"An Amish Home - Attainable"
Come for a visit to Karsten Field with these Biblically inspired stories of home and family.
Best-selling author George Michael Loughmueller goes back to Karsten Field for a new series of short stories. Each stand-alone story takes place in the district where Allan Howarth was set free. Almost eight years after his journey began, Allan and Mary now have two children, Benjamin and Ruth, in their Amish Home.
Attainable has a simple message. It is about the strength of our beliefs. Ben Abrim tells young Ruth a story that bears a strong resemblance to the story of David and Goliath. It is not a tale of defeating an insurmountable enemy. It is about faith and finding answers in unlikely places. Because we have faith does not mean all of our problems will be solved. It means that we are not alone in solving our problems.
George Michael Loughmueller is a descendant of German heritage. Finding joy in being a husband and father, he is known by his friends as “Laughing George” because of his cheerful disposition and the pronunciation of his last name.
Born in the Midwest, George has spent time both in Omaha, Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa. He works in retail, but has long had the dream of being an author. With the support of family and friends, George decided to write a story inspired by his grandfather.
“Set Free: An Amish Journey” is a work of fiction. However, some of the events are based on facts and stories told by George’s late father about the unusual life of his grandfather. In George’s mind, the fictional church district of Karsten Field is set in the small communities of eastern Iowa.

Sarah Price Helms The Next Installment Of The Best -Selling "Mark Miller's One" Series! Here It Is "Volume 11- The Power Of Faith"
100% of the author’s proceeds will be donated to Forget Me Not Horse Rescue, a charitable organization where abandoned, abused, unwanted and neglected horses find a new home. www.ForgetMeNotHorseRescue.com
Mark Miller’s One is a spiritual anthology examining True-Life experiences of Authors and their Faith. As the series evolves expect to discover what it means to have faith, no matter what that faith is and no matter where they live. Remember that we are all part of this One World.
In Story Eleven, Sarah Price transports us around the world and back in time. On a recent trip to Israel, the author explored the roots of her faith and made connections to her Amish ties back home. She wants to share The Power of Faith.
Sarah Price's ancestors emigrated from Europe in 1705, settling in Pennsylvania as the area's first wave of Mennonite families. Sarah Price has always respected and honored her ancestors through exploration and research about her family history and their religion. At nineteen, she befriended an Amish family and lived on their farm throughout the years.
Twenty-five years later, she now splits her time between her husband and children in the NYC Metro area and a home that she shares with an Amish woman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where she retreats to reflect and write. As a masterful storyteller, Sarah Price prides herself on presenting an authentic Amish experience for her readers. Many of her stories are based on actual people she has met and her own experiences living among the Amish over the years.
She is the author of the Amish of Lancaster Series as well as children's series about a little dog named Peek-a-boo. She's also the author of The Amish Novella Series.
A Kansas Native, Mark currently resides in Florida with his wife and four children. Since moving to Florida, he has pursued a lifelong aspiration of becoming a published author. He believes he has always been a writer and strived to follow in the footsteps of his namesake, Mark Twain.
His education started early as his father was a newspaper writer, editor and photographer for both the Kansas City Star and Kansan. Formal development started in high school writing classes at Sumner Academy where he completed the International Baccalaureate program. Additional teaching came from both Kansas City Kansas Community College and the University of Kansas. It was at KU where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Film. Informally, he was educated by the writings of C.S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander and as he matured, Tolkien. His interest in fantasy did not end on the page as some of his favorite movies include The Dark Crystal, Excalibur, and Star Wars.
Professional experience dates back to the 1990's. Mark has co-written four screenplays, two of which were produced as ultra-low budget direct-to-DVD features by East of Hollywood Productions. Through his relationship with East of Hollywood, Mark also became co-creator of an educational and entertaining children's program. That show used the talents of a local radio personality and a group of child actors to update classic fairytales and fables. Each of the episodes brought a twist to the familiar stories and conveyed a positive message.
On his own, Mark has completed five other novels, a screenplay, three digital short story series and several other short stories. The first three books of his Empyrical Tales have been published by Comfort Publishing, LLC out of North Carolina. Book I: The Fourth Queen, Book II: The Lost Queen and Book III: The Secret Queen are available in print and eBook. Trestle Press published his adaptation of the Christian movie Daniel's Lot, filmed in and around Mount Dora. With Trestle, Mark also heads a spiritual, introspective series called Mark Miller's One and a children's eBook series about to elementary school students that become international spies called Small World Global Protection Agency. This series teaches culture and geography in an exciting way. Mark has another all-ages, faith-based fantasy series that he is co-writing with his nine year old daughter. It is called Sons of the King and is available only on eBook. In addition to his own writing, Mark is currently lending his talents to a faith-based movie production company Lazarus Films.
He believes being a father of four makes him uniquely qualified to write The Empyrical Tales, an eight story series that comes from our collected myths and fairytales. He hopes his writing sends a positive message with strong role models and a beneficial moral element. And every day is an adventure with his children as they continue to teach him as well. His two young daughters unknowingly provided the models that helped create the main character sisters in The Fourth Queen. Many of their phrases and behaviors are shared with their fictional counterparts.

I Just Had To Know: What Is Dystopian Literature? L.W. Rondeau Sets Me Straight!
What is Dystopian Literature?
When I set out to write the America II trilogy, I wasn’t thinking in terms of a genre, especially not a genre within a genre. Sci-fi-speculative-futuristic-political-thriller-dystopian and all those labels were something I hadn’t anticipated. I merely entertained the idea: If societal trends that exist today continue full speed ahead, what would the world look like in 2073?
Then someone reviewed my book and called it dystopian. Someone else said it reminded them a little of Hunger Games, a book I hadn’t even read. I’ve heard other writers refer to their book in the same manner. So I did some research, and sure enough, America II falls within the definition of Dystopian Literature, although, it really is vastly different than Hunger Games, though it does contain some of the elements commonly seen in Dystopian books.
With the onset of the wildly popular The Hunger Games, dystopian literature is now the fastest growing preference in young adult fiction. Some experts argue the reason is because today’s young people are disaffected with today’s culture. They see little hope on the horizon.
Such was the climate of George Orwell’s 1984, written in 1948, a poignant story of a totalitarian government, a few years following the end of World War II. People were frightened of the growth of communism as well as the advent of the Atomic bomb. Hysteria and fear were rampant. World War II vets, returning from their service, could not get jobs.
C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, written post World War II, also explores this loss of hope in the world as it is an allegory of the fall of mankind. Narnia was once Utopia (The Garden of Eden) but became Dystopia, ruled by an evil Snow Queen.
With a stagnant economy, housing crunch, and wide unemployment, not just in America but world-wide, I wonder if we have not grown into another aura of paranoia regarding our future. Hence, the resurgent popularity of Dystopian topics.
Dystopia is derived from the Ancient Greek and means a bad place. By definition, Dystopia is the opposite of Utopia which is a derivative of the Greek word meaning place and sounds like the English homophone (eutopia) which is derived from the Greek to mean good or well. In combination then, Utopia, has come to mean a good place. Utopia is often thought of as Heaven on earth, paradise today, where the world lives in peace and no one dies of hunger. Where there is no such thing as crime. In the classic, The Time Machine, a scientist creeps into the future to see if the world can cure its ills. He stumbles upon a seeming Utopia until he realizes human beings are being raised as food for underground monsters.
According to Wikipedia, Dystopian literature has these in common: idea of a society, generally of a speculative future, characterized by negative, anti-utopian elements, varying from environmental to political and social issues.
Most Dystopian themes will characterize society as oppressive or totalitarian. While the world seems dark and unappealing to the reader, the minor characters or society sees nothing wrong with the way things are. There is generally a character or characters that is dissatisfied and wants things to change. Therein is the conflict, the character pitted against society, like Don Quixote, flailing his sword at windmills.
Other classic dystopian literature includes: Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, and The Iron Heel.
Unlike most Dystopian themes, and more like Chronicles of Narnia, America II: The Reformation offers hope for an improved society. It also reminds the reader of God’s continued interest and involvement in the affairs of His creation.
A native of Central New York, Linda Rondeau met and married Steve Rondeau, her best friend in life, and managed a career in human services before tackling professional writing. After thirty-four years of marriage, they have relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, leaving rural America to live in a city of one million.
While writing is her greatest passion, the more favorable temperatures of Florida allow her to follow another great passion--golf.
Linda is the wife of one patient man, the mother of three, and the grandmother of nine.
An award winning author, L.W. Rondeau first book, The Other Side of Darkness (written under Linda Wood Rondeau), released Fall 2012, and won the 2012 Selah Award for best first novel. America II: The Reformation is L.W.’s debut sci-fi book and is the first of a futuristic, political thriller trilogy. A prequel is planned in the form of serial editions.

Best-Selling Author Sarah Price To Start A New Series! Get The Details Right Here!
In a few weeks, Helping Hands Press will begin publishing a new series
that I'm writing called Amish Circle Letters. As many of you may know
(or not), the Amish do not have access to computers and certainly not
social media. My readers often ask me how they stay in touch with each
other since they don't use computers. The concept of being
technology-free seems so foreign to us since, with the click of a
button, we can send short little updates about our lives to all of our
Internet-connected friends.
Well, the answer is simple: Circle Letters. One person starts the
letter and mails it with a list of names/addresses to the first person
on the list. That person reads the letter, adds her own (yes, it's
typically written by the females), and sends the package to the next
person on the list who repeats the process. When the package returns
to the original sender, there are many letters with updates about the
lives of friends, family, and the community. The process gets repeated
indefinitely.
Amish Circle Letters will be published in volumes with each volume
costing only 99 cents. I am very excited to be working with Helping
Hands Press, whom most of you are familiar with from having read Karen
Anna Vogel's books
(http://www.amazon.com/Karen-Anna-Vogel/e/B005LTBBJY ). If you haven't
read her series and novels, I encourage you to do so! She's a
wonderful author of Amish fiction...truly gifted and very
knowledgeable about the Amish culture.
I'll keep you posted on the progress but, in the meantime, happy reading!
Hugs,
S.P.

Karen Anna Vogel Talks About Amish Friends Who Inspire Her Writing!
Karen Anna Vogel talks about Amish friends who inspire her writing.
What is your connection to the Amish?
I live ½ hour away from Smicksburg, PA, a large Old Order Amish settlement. I shop at their stores and we hired Amish men to help remodel our century old farmhouse. It’s been fifteen years of remodeling, (still not done…) so we got to know many men and their families. On their breaks, they love to talk and swap stories, and I always have 1001 questions, ranging from “Do you grow celery for weddings?”(They had no idea what I was talking about) to “Do you read the Bible?” (Yes, they do, KJV)
I became good friends with Lydia, (Katie Byler in Knit Together) after buying so many plants from her greenhouses, and “Granny” while taking lots of people to her quilt shop. (Granny wishes to be completely anonymous) She is Granny Weaver in Amish Knitting Circle, Amish Friends Knitting Circle, Amish Doll and Knit Together.
When did your fascination with Amish culture start?
In my mid-20’s my husband and I moved to Upstate New York. There are many Amish in rural New York, and we became friends with a handicapped man, Harry Hershberger, and his wife, Katie. (Eli and Lottie Hershberger in Knit Together) His buggy was hit as a young man, after the birth of their daughter and the Amish build a variety store on the side of his house. My four kids loved to go in and get coloring books, and we all got to know Harry from our regular visits. He had some use of his hands and made quilts, and I took them to festivals.
One day he told me I was a trusted English friend, and invited me into their food co-op. When I moved back home to Pennsylvania fourteen years later, the Amish in Smicksburg knew Harry & Katie. Since I was a trusted friend to them, they trusted me. Once you’re a trusted friend, it’s like having an all access pass into their lives it seems. They readily open up, and if you’re one of them. Once I was chatting with a woman and her husband came home from work, and he never met me before. He looked at her sternly, and she said, “Friends with Harry Hershberger in NY” and he smiled at me and nodded in approval.
Tell us about your novels and continuing short stories.
My novels out now are stand-alone stories, but are all called Amish Knitting Novels. Knit Together and The Amish Doll are set in different locations, but they both focus on healing through knitting and faith in Christ.
Continuing shorts have made quite a comeback. Anne of Green Gables, Pickwick Papers, and Jan Karon’s At Home in Mitford series were all weekly serials in newspapers. My shorts come out every 3 weeks. Amish Knitting Circle started with Granny inviting five women from her church district to a knitting circle to knit shawls for tornado victims in Joplin, MO. She invites women she has inkling are hiding problems. Granny spins yarn and feels women are stronger spun together, and by the end of 10 episodes, you see how much they needed each other.
Amish Friends Knitting Circle is about Granny and her girls having a knitting circle with friends from the Smicksburg Baptist Church. It’s been lots of fun to write, since I take lines right out of my own conversations with the Amish.
What are your readers saying about your books?
Since I deal with cancer, infertility, spousal abuse and other women’s issues, women tell me they are finding help and comfort, especially through Amish Knitting Circle and Amish Friends Knitting Circle. Some women are starting knitting or craft circles, spreading the message that we’re stronger as women, spun together. Also, Knit Together is semi-autobiographical. I wrote if after losing my mom and two cousins in 13 months. So it deals with grief and it seems to be ministering to people. The complete Serenity Prayer is in the book, and different parts of the prayer are prayed by different characters. It helped bring healing to me, and I hope it does the same for my readers.
Where can readers find your books and connect with you?
You can contact me at www.karenannavogel.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/karen.a.vogel.9 My blog, Amish Crossings, is meant to be a place to cross paths with others interested in the Amish or simple living. Please join me there at www.karenannavogel.blogspot.com I also share my Amish photography on Pinterest, and you can follow me on Twitter @karenannavogel.
My eBooks can be found on Amazon, B&N, Sony, and anywhere eBooks are sold. My paperback, Knit Together and The Amish Doll, are on Amazon for now, but soon to be distributed to brick and mortar stores and other websites. Our family store, Thrifty Christian Shopper, www.thriftychristian.com (Also on EBay and Amazon) will carry the paperbacks as well. You also might find them in your local library. Do You Love Sci-Fi? A Unique Fresh Perspective? A Really Interesting Story Arc? Then Alan Zendell Has Just The Story For You!
Steve Kowalski was many things: husband, father, engineer, software consultant, and life-long agnostic. But things changed. His son blamed him for his wife’s untimely death and three years of living in denial shattered his world. He was lost until he met Brock, an explorer, sent by an ancient, star-faring race called the Guardians, who has come to protect Earth from other, less benevolent aliens. Thus begins a journey that takes Steve across the galaxy, but his real quest is a spiritual one. Do humans have a special destiny? Is there an omnipotent entity that has chosen us as its special creation?
Episode 1 finds Steve alone in the Rockies in search of peace, after his fragile emotional balance collapsed during a business trip to Denver. There, he meets Brock, who appears to be an average man with a broken leg, but his ability to communicate telepathically convinces Steve that he is an alien.
Brock’s flyer has been shot out of the sky by the Luugs, aliens of a different species who will stop at nothing to acquire a resource that can only be found on Earth. Brock must stop them, but he cannot succeed without help. The impossibly unlikely circumstance that an element vital to sustaining life exists in abundance only on Earth is a blow to Steve’s agnosticism. Meeting Brock gives his life new meaning, and he vows to help him defeat the Luugs. But the Luugs the launch an attack which Steve and Brock are fortunate to survive.
Steve thinks he and Brock are alone in their fight, but the episode ends when we learn that their encounter with the Luugs was witnessed by the crew of an airliner.

Remember this is a work of fiction, but due to the author’s incredible ability to tell a story, this may seem all too real. We assure you, none of it is.

He rose through the ranks reaching the level of Special Agent in Charge. His professional travels took him to Israel, Russia, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Last Night David Michael Harding Lit It Up On The G-ZONE! Give It A Listen!
Yesterday I was fortunate to have two guests on my blogtalk show The G-ZONE. I have already had a post-up about Shellie Blum, David Michael Harding was the guest that was on at the top of the show. Below is a bit about his novel, and the link for the show. DMH was very engaging, if you have a little time, listen in to him discussing his Historical Novel, sounds incredible:

In the darkest days of World War II, when France found itself at the mercy of a brutal dictator, the frontlines of resistance may just have been in the grasp of a few good women. How Angels Die, the epic work of historical fiction by author David-Michael Harding, delivers a highly inventive and uncommon take on the French Resistance that is certain to appeal to anyone who relishes a blood-pumping drama, which also sheds searing new light on the astounding bravery, profound passion, and razor-sharp cunning of the fairer sex during the most trying times.
In four fateful days, two remarkable sisters, Monique and Claire McCleash, battle the German occupation of their coastal French town in the early days of June 1944. While their mission is the same, their methods of upending the occupation are irreconcilably at odds. The strikingly beautiful Monique puts her body and wit to work for the Resistance by dating and sleeping with German officers; her younger sister Claire elects instead to serve as an active combat guerilla fighter for the cause.
Brimming with high drama that is punctuated by family humor, How Angels Die lifts the veil on a lesser-known side of the French Resistance. Through the prism of two intrepid women, the novel illuminates how these women employ their formidable assets and fierce love of country to face down a vicious enemy. With page-turning action, unstoppable passion, and historical accuracy, this heart-racing novel is a must-read for sisters, history buffs, and action enthusiasts alike.
George Michael Loughmueller Opens Up & Admits He Was Wrong!
I thought once I completed the story of Set Free that I would move on to something else. I discovered I was wrong. With An Amish Home, I really enjoy going back to Karsten Field. The first story is available for $0.99 at this link - http://goo.gl/oc82v
It is a lot of fun to see what Allan has become. Having two young children opens up so many possibilities. If you read my story for the series Mark Miller's One, then you know I had a personal experience with a flood that got my life back on track when I had strayed a little. Major events like that help us realize what is important and separate it from the trivial.
In the first Amish Home story, Allan and his family face a flood far worse than mine. His motivations have changed from his original Amish Journey. Now that he is "set free", his focus changes to his family. These stories will be about how his faith affects more than himself.
The next stand alone story will go in a different direction. Instead of too much rain, Karsten Field will experience a drought. Being such a small community and being self-sustaining, this sort of natural disaster brings about a challenge akin to a Goliath stomping through their crops.
How will Allan stand up to that?
I am currently working on it and we will all know quite soon.
For now, please give a visit to my author page - http://www.facebook.com/LaughingGeorge
Thanks for reading!

Pann Haggerty and ‘average’ Joe Harper have arrived in Martha’s Vineyard. Whilst introducing Pann to the many delights that New England has to offer, Pann manages to cause mayhem wherever she goes, and with whomever she meets.
During their time in the vineyard, Pann meets Mike, a local vineyard owner and good friend of Joes’. Will this be the love that she has been longing for or is she destined to wait longer?
Pann Haggerty, musicals, seafood and wine. Grab a glass and enjoy Pann’s thrilling adventure in Martha’s Vineyard.
'What You See Is What You Get' would be the best way to describe Amanda. Born in Bexleyheath, England 1971, she is a wife and mother of seven children ranging in ages from her 21 year old daughter down to a spirited 3 year old son. Life in her house is manic. There is always unpredictablity and a disaster waiting round the next corner. There is however, plenty of love and laughter in the home Amanda shares with her wonderful comedic husband Matt and 3 youngest children in Bedfordshire, England. In between school runs, housework and talking to her two cats, Amanda divides her time between writing, dreaming and watching her favourite films and television shows. An unashamed addict of Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Gilmore Girls, Anne of Green Gables and Doris Day musicals, as well as sharing her husband's love of Science Fiction and superhero films.
Amanda is also passionate about history and her bookshelves are lined with books on the Royal Families of Europe and thick historical tomes. Her love of romance novels began when she was snooping in her grandmother's spare room where she found a Janet Dailey novel, from there her dream of becoming a published author began. Her perfect afternoon would be spent watching a musical, drinking a pot of tea and munching on warm home-made cakes with her family. Wife, mother, dreamer and lover. Jill of all trades, master of none!

Faith Themed Series Releases New Installment- From Filmmaker De Miller Comes - "Twin Tales - Volume 3 - Cover Up"
Does God’s grace know no bounds? That question didn’t even enter Gerry Ficus’s mind until the day he laid eyes on 28-year-old Shelia Bryant, wife of one of his charges at the local police department. Gerry, a 40-year-old pillar of the Mound City community, a ranking officer with the local police department and a lay pastor at the First Methodist Church of Mound City, put away bad guys and counseled sinners every day. Within a matter of months, he became both.
Ficus, a U.S. Army hero at the age of 17, a police captain and one of five top officers in the city police force in only 15 years and a deacon, elder, counselor, men’s leader and one of only three lay pastors at his church, would be the most unlikely candidate to test God’s grace. However, a chance glimpse of the beautiful wife of one of his men puts everything Gerry has worked for and believed in rapidly to the test.
Can a relationship that started with lust of the eyes, became lust of the flesh and then lust of the heart, ever be made right? To what ends will Gerry go to surrender his beliefs and his very faith in the name of love? Unfaithfulness? Deceit? Murder? And will God ever take him back?
Cover- Up, the third installment in the Twin Tales series of faith-themed short stories, examines all of these questions and answers just where God will meet us and what we have to do to obtain His grace. The story was inspired by a true story from the Bible. The Twin Tales series of short stories attempts to present stories of faith that have double meanings. Every true Christian’s faith is constantly being tested, and we are all faced with deciding how we should interpret what we hear from God.

World Record Holding Water-Skier Turned Author On The G-ZONE Thursday Night @7pmEST
Thursday night @7PM EST on The G-ZONE I will have the honor and pleasure of interviewing not one but two different authors-David Michael Harding & Shellie Blum. Below is part of Shellie’s story, very compelling, very honest, and right in your face.
Here is the link for the show, tune in, call in, email me with your questions- be a part of the conversation!
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/gelatisscoop/2012/08/16/david-michael-harding-shellie-blum-drop-in-to-the-g-zone
I’m 5'2" and weigh less than 115 pounds soaking wet—which is how I spent most of the first 24 years of my life. From the time I stepped into a pair of water skis I was in my element. Actually, I didn’t even need the skis: The Lake of the Ozarks Water Ski Show billed me as the “The 12-Year-Old Girl Wonder,” the youngest-ever female professional barefoot water skier. I loved freestyle skiing, and I loved breaking records. Not just “easy” records like water-skiing nonstop for 12½ hours—312 miles—to break the Muscular Dystrophy Marathon record, but the serious challenges of freestyle water ski ramp jumping.
The first female water-skier caught on film doing a helicopter? That was me, at age 18, at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. I landed my first front-flip at age 22, another world record first. All I needed to become the first and only woman to compete in the Coors Light Freestyle Water-ski Pro Tour was the back-flip, and I finally stuck my first perfect landing—on film, no less!—at age 24 at Cypress Gardens: The Water Ski Capital of the World. I wasn’t yet consistent enough to challenge the men, though, so I practiced the back-flip whenever I could…between waterskiing the Red Sea in a race for King Hussein of Jordan’s birthday and performing in record-breaking 5-tier human pyramids at Cypress Gardens.
I was practicing my back-flip in March 1989 when I set a record I never wanted: the first female water-ski pro to be dragged by the neck through the water at 36 mph. I survived the Hangman’s Fracture and a broken jaw. Most people said I was lucky. I could have…should have…died or been paralyzed. But if I had been a male athlete with my career cut short, would my doctor have told me to find a rich husband, settle down, and get a nice house in the country? I don’t think so.
No longer able to do the one thing that made me deliriously happy, the thing I was better at than any other woman in the world, I was left with a paralysis of a different sort: depression. The bills piled up. The insurance company pressured me to settle. Just surviving seemed to mean one battle after another. But I am nothing if not a fighter. With the help of my family, my friends, and a few dedicated professionals, I was finally able to come to terms with my physical and emotional pain. I’ll never be able to freestyle jump again. But I’ve found a new element, and I’m just as competitive as ever. This is my story.

Stan knows Chef Gio holds the key to this mystery and how he must finesse his colossal ego to get what he needs.
