Tod Goldberg Burn Notice -The Giveaway

If you were a blogger your biggest concern would be content, then content, and then after that content. To have that content you would have to have really good novels appear in your blog. I definitely have that today in The Giveaway a Burn Notice novel based on the USA Network series. Tod Goldberg has added yet another great chapter to this series. Personally I was getting tired of hearing my son and a few of daughters ask me if I was done with it yet. The only pleasure in that, was watching them plead their case as to who would get it next. Competition amongst those in the herd is good once in a while. But I digress.
The Giveaway has all the right elements in it if you are a big fan of the show, as many in our family are, an occasional viewer or have never seen the show or heard about it. The key here is the well-crafted plotline, the incredible wit and humor of Tod Goldberg, and the way in which he crawls into the heads of the show’s characters and gives us their perspectives. I think that given the show’s popularity, Goldberg could at times mail it in and assume many things throughout the novel. He stands tall in not doing that and making this not just a supplement to the series but I think a necessary read. The way he fleshes out Sam and Fi make this worth the read plus. Michael Weston is always front and center in the show, here we get to see sides of the characters that we wouldn’t otherwise. No spoilers here, but Fiona gets a lot of ink in this novel and it really works.
In summation, this novel is a fun summer read. It is quick, light, full of action, and downright funny. Michael, Sam, Fiona, Ma, & Nate are all accounted for in the novel. If you haven’t met them yet, don’t hesitate to friend them. Pick this novel up and introduce yourself to them. Who doesn’t want to meet an ex-spy, former Navy Seal, an IRA bomber, a bank robber, bikers, skanks and a bunch of smelly geriatrics. Fun, right?
