Graphic Novel Friday The Incredibles Mark Waid

I had recently read a graphic novel penned by Mark Waid and really enjoyed it, so I thought why not dig a little deeper and see what other work he has done. Why not? I found out that he had done work on one of my favorite Disney/Pixar movies – The Incredibles. I quickly got the first two I could get my hands on: “City of Incredibles” and “Family Matters”. They are both a ton of fun.
I think that The Incredibles was an awesome movie. I know, I am not a movie critic, but hey, I really enjoyed the movie and have watched it numerous times with our kids. Great memories, good times, why not enjoy the graphic novels? I have read them both, shared them with some of the Fam and we all agree that they are fun, cute , and a nice way to not just rehash the original movie , but expand on the character’s. The two graphic novels are set at different times. “City of Incredibles” has the birth of Jack-Jack in it, and introduces us to Doctor Sunbright. I smile just thinking of the character. He is the only Doctor to the supers. The art is as close to the movie as I think anyone can get, the feel and emotion of the original characters are there and the whole graphic novel just moves at such a quick, pleasant pace. I really enjoyed sharing these with the youngest as well as the oldest of our children. I think they really captured the spirit of The Incredibles and expanded on the story. I have always been a bit bummed they haven’t put out a sequel yet to the movie. I live vicariously through these graphic novels then.

  1. I love graphic novels. They are especially popular with my students who struggle with reading. These would be a great addition to my children's library at home. Thanks.

If you want to try an adult graphic novel, I suggest Maus by Art Spiegel.
